Well, our old pals at Walrus Audio are at it again. As if the Fathom Multi Function Reverb wasn’t enough, now they’ve dropped another ambient bomb on us all, one that’s sure to entice and excite. The Slö is a Multi Texture Reverb, a pedal that creates lush, ambient and even modulated soundscapes, bringing dreams from your subconscious to reality. Sound fun? You bet it is….

Starting things off, Decay sets your overall reverb decay length, going from tight and short to long and drawn out. The Filter knob determines the tone of the decay, with darker tones when set to the left, and brighter sounds as you turn the dial clockwise. The Mix knob, as you may guess, blends your dry signal with the reverb effect, with 50/50 unity blend coming at around 2:00. This unity is also indicated by a permanent white line that Walrus has drawn right onto the enclosure, as to avoid any confusion.

The heart of the Slö is it’s centrally-located toggle switch, which provides a multitude of sonic choices. First, you can select from three different onboard reverb algorithms – Dark adds a lower octave to your reverb trails, Rise gives you an auto-swell reverb sound and Dream is a lush, spacious effect. Dream mode also gives you the opportunity to latch your signal by pressing the Sustain footswitch. The Slö also features 3 different wave shapes which are accessible by holding down Bypass and switching the algorithm toggle. Sine gives you a smooth and even pitch up and down modulation; Warp has an asymmetric pitch up modulation similar to a warped record. Sink, meanwhile, has an asymmetric pitch down modulation, for a sinking detune similar to a Bigsby.

Want more? You got it! There’s an “X” knob, which performs differently depending on which algorithm is selected. In Dark mode, it sets the level of the -1 octave that feeds the reverb. In Rise mode, it sets the amount of time it takes for the reverb to swell in. In Dream mode, it adjusts the depth of the vibrato that is applied to the reverb. There’s a Depth control as well, which controls the amount of modulation in the reverb. There’s a secondary function with this knob, too, as you can control the rate/speed of the modulation to your taste.

Combining deep modulation with long, drawn-out reverb trails and ambient pleasures for all to enjoy, the Slö is an incredible, versatile and expansive reverb, one that you’ll cherish for years to come. Ranging with uses from the most extreme reverb freaks to those who just need a little flavor in their tone, it’s got something for just about anyone out there and their instrument.
